I do not have a lot of information on the mines. Only a few tidbits of information handed down through family. Listening to stories about working in the coal mines I thought the mines were worked all the time. But apparently that is not the case. In my Aunt's diary she makes mention of "waiting to hear the mine whistle" in the morning to see if her husband would be working the mine that day. My Aunt's, Leroy Sparks Turner, biological father was killed in a mine accident in 1917 when she was a few months old. You can read the newspaper article at this link: Spadra Creek Coal Company
